Highlands Plan Conformance

Vernon Township, Sussex County, Governing Body and Planning Board
The goal of the Sustainable Economic Development Plan (SEDP) was to explore the ways in which Vernon Township could maximize its economic assets and improve the overall vitality of the Township.
With two-thirds of the Township situated in the Highlands Preservation Area, where new development is severely limited, the Township is constrained to small developable areas and an emphasis on agricultural and eco-tourism.
Vernon Township’s Land Use Board adopted the Sustainable Economic Development Plan as an Element of the Township Master Plan.
The plan sets forth how to promote economic development throughout the Township.
Vernon’s strengths and weaknesses were identified through holding numerous focus groups with the Vernon Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Committee, Vernon Police Athletic League, and the Greenway Action Committee. The SEDP emphasized Vernon’s vast natural resources, recreation opportunities, resorts, and unique status as a four-season community with a small-town family atmosphere.
We specialize in small to mid-sized municipalties and we’d love to help.
