Town of Newton, Sussex County, Governing Body
This project was funded by the 2022 Neighborhood Preservation Program (NPP) which provides direct financial support and technical assistance to Newton in order to address the comprehensive revitalization needs of targeted areas within the Town Center District. The Olmsted Mural Group created a concept drawing for the planned mural and in August 2023, volunteers of all age-levels and various talent levels participated in painting the mural.
At 63 feet wide and 14 feet high, the mural is situated on the Moran Street side of 15 Spring Street, which is situated in the Town of Newton Local Historic District. The mural features iconic landmarks such as the Sussex County Courthouse, Merriam Casa Bella, The Soldier’s and Sailor’s Monument, the clock tower, and Newton’s Elementary, Middle, and High schools set against the backdrop of Newton.
JCA wrote and continues to administer the Neighborhood Preservation Program that provides $125,000 in grant funding to the Town every year for five years. The grant funds can be used for visible improvements in the program area.
The grant has funded façade improvements, sign improvements, planters and flowers, window decorations, an audio system on Spring Street and the Moran Street Mural. The Town mural was unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 5, 2023 at the corner of Spring and Moran Streets.
We specialize in small to mid-sized municipalties and we’d love to help.
