Comprehensive Plan
Master Plan: Climate Change Related Hazard Vulnerability Assessment, Land Use Element, Circulation Plan Element, Community Facilities Plan Element, Recycling Element
West Milford Township, Passaic County, Planning Board
The Township of West Milford is in the process of updating its Master Plan, last comprehensively updated in 1987. With all 80 square miles of this municipality situated in the Preservation Area of the Highlands Region, West Milford is updating its Master Plan to reflect changing social, economic, and climate needs.
Economic sustainability, climate resilience, and preservation of the Township’s unique existing character and vast natural resources are all guiding principles as JCA prepares this plan with the Township Planning Board.
The final product, once complete, will present a comprehensive overview of the Township as it exists in 2024 and provide a broad basis on which planning efforts and land use decisions can rely for years to come. Highlights include a new Climate Change Related Hazard Vulnerability Assessment and revisions to the Land Use Element to compliment the Highlands Preservation Area designation.
Considerations with zone changes consider the available exemptions for development and opportunities for Highlands Redevelopment Areas.
